Manny Pacquiao to visit city this week
By Christine Mae Pelayo

THE City Government is prepared for the visit of World Featherweight Boxing Champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao this week.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Pacquiao will definitely visit the city amid rumors that the boxing icon might not be able to come to Bacolod.

The city has already prepared a parade and motorcade for Pacquiao as well as a recognition program as Bacolod's adopted son in front of City Hall.

Leonardia, however, cannot yet disclose the exact day of Pacquiao's visit, though he hopes that the visit will fall on a weekday.

"I hope it would be this Wednesday or Thursday and we will hold the parade in the afternoon so that everybody could witness the recognition ceremony," said Leonardia.

Also, Leonardia requested Himamaylan City Mayor Carminia Bascon to bring Herminio Aurelio's sculpture of Pacquiao in Bacolod.

Leonardia said Bascon may not be present during Pacquiao's visit but her husband, Negros Basketball Association (NBA) president Oscar "Dodong" Bascon, will represent the lady mayor.

Leonardia likewise reiterated that Pacquiao's visit might again draw negative reactions from his political opponents.

Pacquiao had defended Leonardia on the issue of the latter being tagged as KSP (wanting to be noticed) for acting as his (Pacquiao) belt hoister during his fight with Mexican Oscar Larios at the Araneta Coliseum last July 2.

Pacquiao said the city mayor's political enemies were just jealous because Leonardia was invited to be his belt hoister.
