I regret stabbing Irene: Pitong By Roberto L. Bacasong
"I REGRET stabbing Irene," were the only words that came out from the mouth of Nielben Monroe Pitong, an 18 year-old suspect who stabbed Irene De la Peña, a guest relation officer outside the motel in Taculing, Bacolod on December 19 last year.
Pitong was arrested by operatives of Police Station 1 in an entrapment operations at the SP Village, Barangay Pahanocoy at around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The suspect, who is presently locked up at Police Precinct 1 though refused to give further details on what really transpired that night of Dec. 19.
He said he was only pressured by his two companions to do the act. Seven days after he stabbed De la Peña, Pitong surrendered to the police.
He admitted the crime but pinpointed a certain Romeo Calalang alias "Kompol" as the one who ordered him to stab De la Peña.
Later, he was released due to lack of formal complaints against him. Besides, he was only 17 at that time.
But later also, Pitong was reported missing along with Calalang.
Despite their hiding, still the police filed the charge of murder against them.
Citing probable cause on the charge, Judge Ray Allan T. Drilon of the Bacolod City Regional Trial Court Branch 41 issued warrants of arrest against the suspects.
SPO1 Herson Villanueva, chief of the Warrant Section said that Pitong is the 20th at their wanted list.
He said the arrest of Pitong was made after he received scores of text messages from unknown senders informing him of the suspect's presence at the SP Village for about a month already.
Meanwhile, tagged mastermind on the case, Helen Aguadilla, Thursday appealed to the media not to subject her to a "trial by publicity."
Aguadilla said that the court would decide on the matter.
Aguadilla was implicated by De la Peña's stepfather, Sandy Biaco as the alleged "mastermind" after she has reportedly harbored ill-feelings against the GRO who was said to be her husband, Cesar, other woman.
She, however, denied the accusation.
Aguadilla said she now relies everything to her lawyer.
