Heaven 'cries' as Sir Poy is finally laid to rest By Roberto L. Bacasong
THE heavy rains that poured throughout Bacolod City Sunday failed to deter more than 2,000 men, women and children from attending the funeral of high school teacher Augusto de Leon at the Rolling Hills Memorial Park in Barangay Estefania Sunday afternoon.
Don Bosco parish priest Fr. Jaime Carmona and Barangay Alangilan parish priest Fr. Farelay Santillan officiated the two-hour necrological service at the Triumph of the Holy Cross.
The service was flooded with De Leon's students from St. Scholastica's Academy, St. Joseph High School, his family members, relatives, friends and co-teachers.
The mourners dressed in white paid the last respects to De Leon who was finally laid to rest Sunday afternoon.
Carmona, in his homily, encouraged De Leon's family members to accept the death of the "pillar" of their home.
He said that De Leon, who died at 40, was "faithful till the end".
"De Leon had lived a full life for the past 40 years. There was so many ample opportunities he received from his career and from his family," said Carmona.
"God has good plans for De Leon. God is wise, loving and forgiving and taking the life of De Leon is a blessing," said Carmona.
"God is El Shaddai which means more than enough. God is Emmanuel who is always with us from our ups and downs in life," he added.
After the mass, a eulogy was given by the victim's closest friends and family members.
"I love you pa. We will be missing you," said his eldest son, Kheemphee Kherck, 19. The teary-eyed Kheemphee Kherck said he used to joke around with his father after he arrives from work.
Lucy Togle, SSA school directress, said de Leon was a very good teacher for molding the students.
"Poy (de Leon) was a very gifted person as he could sing and dance well," she said.
Raizel Panisa, de Leon's student, described him as a strict teacher.
"I am happy and very proud that I am one of his students. It makes me a better person and help me boost my self-confidence," Panisa, a sophomore student, added.
De Leon died in an accident last July 21 along San Sebastian-Lacson, Bacolod City.
Complaints for reckless imprudence with homicide and reckless imprudence with damage to property were filed against Board Member Lorenzo Suatengco and Marvin Ortiz before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.
Suatengco, currently the president of the Youth Council Federation in the province, is still being confined at the Riverside Medical Center.
He was said to have undergone a knee surgery.
Ortiz, on the other hand, is also being confined at Our Bacolod Lady of Mercy Speciality Hospital.
