Army won't accept women applicant yet By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
ILOILO CITY -- With the Philippine Army's plan to create another battalion in Western Visayas, the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division is now needing about 650 additional soldiers from Bohol, Cebu, Panay and Negros.
Army Spokesman Maj. Lyndon Sollesta, however, said that the guidelines for this year's recruitment of additional soldiers for 3ID was revised by their commanding general, Maj. Victor Ibrado so that the recruitment will now be centralized.
"Applicants must come from Bohol, Cebu, Panay and Negros. While no female applicants will be accepted this year," he said, adding that based also on the instruction of new Army Chief Maj. Gen. Romeo Tolentino, this year's recruits must be purely men and shooters.
Applicants must be at least 5'4" in height, 25 years of age at the time of enlistment, must have taken at least 72 units in college and must also pass the written exam, interview, medical and dental check-up.
He said this year's recruitment will get 150 applicants each from Bohol, Cebu and Negros and the 200 more from Panay.
Official training and schooling at Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz will start on October 1 and will last for six months that will include three months for full-time military course and the another three months will be spent for jungle warfare.
The new recruits will then be formed into one battalion that will upgrade the Task Force Panay and will augment the 301st Infantry Brigade for 3rd ID, said Sollesta.
Purpose of which is to deploy more troops and conduct aggressive campaign against terrorism and insurgency in the Visayas.
