Koronadal to host '07 Palaro

IT WILL be back to Koronadal City in South Cotabato for secondary and elementary level athletes when the 2007 Palarong Pambansa gets staged in the Ilonggo-populated capital city of Southern Mindanao.

Len Toledo, Palarong Pambansa national secretariat chief, announced recently in Manila that Koronadal got the most number of votes from the 16 regional directors while Lanao del Norte placed second and Zamboanga City, third.

Koronadal likewise hosted the Palaro ng Bayan in 2002, the National Prisaa in 1997 and the Palarong Pambansa in 1995.

"In the Palaro board meeting held last July 27, the regional directors chose Koronadal as their first choice as venue for the 2007 Palaro. This was after the bidders--Lanao Del Norte Governor Imelda and Bobby Dimaporo, Mayor Fernado Miguel of Koronadal and Mayor Celso Lobregat of Zamboanga City--formally presented their offers," Toledo said in a statement furnished Sun.Star.

Lanao Del Norte, which boast of P175 million state-of-the-art stadium in Tubod, hosted the Palaro in 2003.

Meanwhile, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) executive director Cesar Pradas announced in Manila yesterday that he was ordered by the PSC chairman William "Butch" Ramirez to help the Department of Education in organizing the Palarong Pambansa next year.

It will be recalled that in 1997, Western Visayas Prisaa, with majority of the athletes coming from the Negros Occidental Private School Sports Cultural & Education Association or Nopsscea, snatched the overall national Prisaa championship crown from perennial champion National Capital Region (NCR).(HCV)
