Lightning kills 'Roy Gamboa'
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

A THUNDERBOLT struck a house in Sagay City Thursday afternoon killed three persons, including a namesake of former Negros Occidental vice governor Roy Gamboa, and a pregnant woman.

Police Officer 3 Romeo Taguiwalo, Sagay City Police Office (SCPO) desk officer, identified the victims as Roy Gamboa, 24, his live partner Marissa Bacanto, 19, and her brother Leonardo Bacanto, 18.

Roy and Marissa have been living in for a year and the latter is already eight months pregnant.

Taguiwalo said the victims were all eating their lunch inside their house when heavy rains fell. The rains were followed by a loud thunder and lightning.

The girl's mother saw how the three were struck by the lightning that entered their house. She also saw how they were burned and left lifeless on the floor.
The woman survived unscathed.

"It was purely an accident and no one is to be blamed," Taguiwalo said.

Gani Republica of the Provincial Disaster Management Team (PDMT) said Thursday's rains was a product of southwesternly wind brought about by the inter-tropical convergence zone that also causes thunderstorm, lightning and scattered rains showers.

Thursday's weather, added Republica, was just normal except the lightning that killed three persons.
