USLS XI drubs Air Force, 4-0

REIGNING Philippine Football Federation (PFF) national men's open champion University of St. La Salle drubbed Philippine Air Force, 4-0, Thursday afternoon at the Philsport (formerly Ultra) pitch in Pasig City culminating the team's three-game exposure swim in Metro Manila this week.

Scoring for the USLS squad mentored by former national team coach Freddie Lazarito were Arnie Pasinabo, Miguel Gonzales, Jimmy Doņa and Ali Rojas.

Doņa and Rojas, along with Alexander Borromeo, Ruben Doctora Jr., brothers Jezurel and Ziggy Tonog and Loreto Kalalang are the reinforcements for the USLS varsitarians who are currently defending their crown in the Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) 2006 men's open provincial championship which is slated to end next weekend.

Earlier, the La Sallians played NCAA reigning champion San Beda College to a scoreless draw and also drew, 2-2, with the RP men's national team during the team's first two matches in Manila.

Keeper Archie Bayquin, one of three La Sallians being eyed by RP team head coach Aris Caslib for possible inclusion in the national team currently preparing for the country's participation in the 2006 Asean Football Cup qualifying series, played heroics for the duration of the team's Manila campaign, according to Lazarito.

Floriano Pacilan and Jezurel Tonog scored the two USLS goals against the national last Tuesday.

Bayquin, together with teammates Pasinabo and Jayson Panhay as well as West Negros College defender Joel Ballo-allo are the four Negrense standouts Caslib aid he is considering for the national team.

The four were the individual awardees during the last PFF National Men's Open Championship in Iloilo City which USLS topped.

Meanwhile, WNC takes on University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in their second leg's men open semis match at 3p.m. today at the Paglaum Sports Complex pitch while USLS awaits the winner of this semis series for the finals of the Nofa men's open provincial championship.

La Salle clinched the first final slot after Bacolod United decided to default its second leg semis match against the La Sallians who defeated them, 9-0, in their first leg encounter. (HCV)
