USLS slated to host Unigames anew
THE University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City will again host the National University Games (Unigames) the 11th edition on October 23 to 29 this year.
USLS varsity sports director and Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president Roger Banzuela confirmed this Tuesday.
A brainchild of former USLS president and Commission on Higher Education chairman Brother Rolando Dizon, FSC, this year's competition will feature major events like athletics, basketball, football, swimming and volleyball.
It will also feature the minor events that include badminton, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis, sepak takraw and taekwondo.
A total of 58 schools have been invited by organizers to compete in this year's edition of the annual sports gathering.
Confirmed to participate this time around are Far Eastern University, the school that has won the most number of titles for the past two years, Ateneo de Manila University, Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, Filamer Christian College, Holy Name University, De La Salle-Lipa, Xavier University and College of St. John.
Also joining this year are University of San Agustin-Iloilo, San Beda College, West Negros College, Holy Angel University, St. Francis of Assisi College, La Carlota City College, Mindanao State University, Adamson University, Jose Rizal University, Riverside College, DLSU-Dasmari¤as and Northern Negros College of Science and Technology.
Davao City's Holy Cross College, University of Cordilleras, University of Iloilo, Assumption College, Negros Oriental State University, Silliman University, University of Mindanao and University of Southern Philippines have likewise confirmed their participation.
Host USLS will be defending its title in men's football while West Negros College will likewise defend its crown in men's basketball.
Participating schools are required to pay a registration fee of P5,000 for the major events where they compete while a registration fee of P3,000 is required for the minor disciplines.
