Power firm board declares general manager position open

THE Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) has declared the position of a general manager vacant.

This as the National Electrification Administration (NEA) reportedly disapproved of having OIC Noriel Bermudez as Ceneco general manager.

Ceneco President Ed Guillem said the resolution to declare the post of the general manager came after a board meeting held at the Ceneco Conference Room last night.

Director Julius Tamayo reportedly motioned to declare the position vacant and open to applicants.

It was unanimously approved by all coop directors. A copy of the resolution will be submitted immediately to the NEA for publication.

After 30 days, the NEA will select the top three applicants who will go through another screening process by the NEA's Selection Committee, which include two Ceneco Board members.

Guillem said an applicant must be a graduate of an engineering, with post-graduate studies or is a graduate of Bachelor of Laws and must have experience and background in the management of an electric cooperative.

He added Bermudez, the controversial officer-in-charge of Ceneco, will remain in his post until a new GM is selected.

Bermudez is in trouble after the NEA questioned his move in appointing himself as head of Ceneco's Consumers Account Department (CAD) despite his present post as OIC.

He is also accused of nepotism after he appointed his son and daughter-in-law for regularization as line man and office staff, respectively at the Ceneco-Murcia office.

Bacolod Water District Assistant Manager Julie Ann Carbon acts as Bermudez legal counsel while the latter's case is being heard by the NEA. (EASD)
