By Henry C. Villalva

EXPECT standouts of the Barangay Bata 19-Under Monico Cup champion squad led by MVP Joemel Paderog to banner their campaign tomorrow in the opening of the Bacolod City Mayor's Cup Masskara Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports (BAYS) Center.

Also scheduled to clash on opening day are Barangay Granada against Barangay Sum-ag.

A motorcade of participating teams will precede the 3:00 p.m. opening ceremonies from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon up to the BAYS Center.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is expected to do the traditional ceremonial toss to signal the start of hostilities.

The twenty participating teams have been divided into three brackets.

Bracket "A" is composed of Barangays 1, 12, 19, 26, 28, and 34 while Bracket "B" has Barangay 10, 13, 36, 40, Singcang-Airport and Tangub.

Joining Barangay Bata in Bracket "C" are Barangay 2, 14, 30, 39, Granada, Sum-ag and Villamonte.

Cagers eligible to see action in this tournament are those who are between 16 to 21 years old, according to a press release from organizers.

Leonardia said his administration "upholds sports development down to the grassroots level to help enhance and hone talents, especially of the youth, in various sports."

Also expected to figure prominently in this series are teams from Villamonte, Tangub, Singcang-Airport and Granada.

The tournament is part of the calendar of sports events for this year's Masskara Festival celebrations.

Games will be open to the public for free, organizers said.
