This year's pageant has 10 contenders from different schools in Bacolod City to compete this evening at the University of Saint La Salle Bacolod.

The 10 candidates for the Masskara Queen 2006 pageant were presented to the local press Saturday at the ABS-CBN Building.

The candidates are Eamay Apostol, 16, a Medical Technology freshman from the University of Negros-Occidental; Mary Grace Delfin, 16, a Tourism freshman of Visayan Maritime Academy-Global College; Tara Delos Reyes, 20, Nursing student of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod; Sheen Liberty Cuenza, 16, a fourth year high school student of the Negros Occidental High School; Christer Mari Taclobos, 17, MedTech sophomore of UNO-R.

Also vying for the top spot are Christia Balajadia, 16, Nursing freshman of CSA-B; Michelle Talapiero, a fourth year high school student of Bata National High School; Novie Profeta, a senior Nursing student of UNO-R; Kristina Fernandez, 18, Psychology major sophomore of USLS; and Angelique Robles, 18, a Nursing student of USLS.

The beauty contest will be hosted by Derek Ramsey, one of the newest ABS-CBN talents.

Also as co-hosts are former MassKara Queen Carmela Arcolas-Gamboa, host of ABS-CBN Bacolod "Amiga"; and Mel Yanson, host of Sabado Barkada.

This year's MassKara Queen Pageant adopts a "reality-TV" show format, promised Barley Molina, head of entertainment of ABS-CBN Regional TV.

Erlson Dione Pilla, MQ 2006 associate producer, said the search will take a different approach in the way the pageant is usually undertaken by bringing to light the hopes, dreams, and the personal lives of each candidate in their quest for the coveted crown.

Before the pageant night, the candidates were exposed in the local programs Amiga, Sabado Barkada, The Morning Show, and TV Patrol.

Leilani Salem-Alba, ABS CBN-Bacolod station manager, said they invited top singing artist Christian Bautista to serenade the candidates and entertain the spectators.
