Thursday, October 19, 2006 'Balut' vendor offered P20T 'bribe' money? By Nicolas C. Delfin and Roberto L. Bacasong
THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Bacolod has advised "balut" vendor Ryan Amion to refuse the P20,000 cash offered by two Regional Mobile Group (RMG) troopers to settle the case he filed against them.
The two troopers mauled Amion aside from making him do physical exercises and pouring him with pig food when he refused to sell his balut on credit.
Romeo Baldevarona, CHR Bacolod officer-in-charge, disclosed Tuesday that he received reports that Amion was approached by the two cops and lured with the amount. Baldevarona said this act is a form of bribery and that the one who offers it could be criminally charged.
He believed that Amion is still determined to get justice after allegedly being mauled by PO1 Richard Suarez and PO1 Paul Eusuya, both members of the 6th RMG in Sagay City.
Amion reportedly assured him that he will not settle the case because the CHR and the Provincial Board have extended their support to him in the filing of the case.
Baldevarona said he is coordinating with Senior Supt. Rene Aspera, chief of the 6th RMG, for the follow-up investigation of the two troopers.
Meanwhile, Western Visayas Police Director Geary Barias said Tuesday that the administrative and criminal complaints filed against the two RMG troopers will be resolved in the next two weeks.
The acts of these two RMG officers is a "black mark" in the organization and I want justice to be done in order for us to vindicate our name," he added.
