NPA targets 10 sugar planters for revolutionary taxes, Army says
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

THE New People's Army (NPA) is targeting 10 sugar planters from three Negros Occidental towns in its campaign for revolutionary taxation this milling season.

So said Col. Gregorio Fajardo, commander of the Army's 303rd Infantry Brigade, in a joint Regional Peace and Order Council and City Peace and Order Council meeting held at the Taberna Hall of Casino Filipino Hotel Wednesday.

The names of these targets are contained in the extortion letters recovered by the Army from an encounter site in Tilim, Calatrava last week.

No politicians were included in the list.

The taxation letters from the National Democratic Front (NDF) have its corresponding control number and were signed by a certain Ka Armando Magbanua.

Fajardo refused to identify the planters for security reasons. He stressed though that he has already assured them of their safety and protection.

"Aside from the 10 targets, the NPAs are also extorting money from the small planters who are afraid of them," added Fajardo.

NDF-NPA taxation, meanwhile, is being coursed through the People's Revolutionary Government-Regional Taxation Team (PRG-RTT).
