FMA demo at Dinner for A Cause

FOUR martial arts organizations from Bacolod and Bago Cities gave an extensive display of Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) during the Dinner for a Cause last October 14, 2006 at the Keeping People Happy (KPH) Restaurant, Group K Complex, Araneta St., Barangay Tangub, Bacolod.

Dinner for a Cause was a fund raising project of the Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) Alumni Class of 1979 headed by President Dennis Geduspan.

1st Generation Inheritor Grandmaster Benefredo "Bebing" M. Lobrido of the Original Filipino Tapado Long Stick Fighting Association (OFTLSFA), Inc., spearheaded the demonstration of the indigenous long stick art of Tapado which included basic uno and dos, doble dos, dos babaw dalum, sighting, sparring, lastiko, goma, bladed, and other higher techniques.

Assisting GM Lobrido were OFT Senior Instructors Joeffrey S. Deriada, Romeo N. Gumban, and James U. Sy Jr., and Junior Instructor Francis Stephen A. Diaz.

Chester F. Esmalla and John Amadeo Libo-on, students of FTSD Founder Master Elmer V. Montoyo, performed the Combat Karate "empty hands" applications of the Philippine Integrated Martial Arts Academy-Filipino Tang Soo Do Association (PIMAA-FTSDA), Inc.

Founder/Head Instructor James U. Sy Jr. and Instructor Joeffrey S. Deriada represented Conceptual Martial Arts Society (CMAS), Inc. with a demonstration of knife defense using empty hands, an umbrella, and while seated from the indigenous arts of Lapu-Lapu Viñas Arnis (Bacolod), Togle style Modern arnis (Murcia), and Wild Judo (Bayawan).

Tapondo International Federation Inc. (TIF), Inc., headed by Negros Island Chief Instructor Roy R. Flores, showcased the Filipino style of Aikido (Tapondo) against various forms of attacks including knife and grabs.

Representing CI Flores were Arel Meñeza (2nd degree black belt) and Rey Balasabas, Jake Bugna, and Jerry Dela Cruz (brown belts).
