Tuesday, October 31, 2006 2 of 4 policemen deny mauling truck driver By Nicolas C. Delfin
TWO policemen of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) Monday denied involvement in the alleged mauling of a truck driver in Circumferential Road, Barangay Villamonte Thursday morning.
PO3 Severino Densing and PO2 Eric Albado of the Noppo Intelligence Division, told Sun.Star in a separate interview, that they “never laid a finger on Rodencio Canoy” and were not even aware of the alleged mauling incident.
Both said that Canoy denied their involvement during a case conference before Regional Intelligence and Investigative Division (RIID) case investigator, Chief Inspector Cecille Detablan.
Earlier, however, Canoy, 23, of Hacienda Canlaon 3 in La Castellana accused Densing and Albado along with Physical Fitness Team (PFT) instructor Inspector Efren Nimbra and a still unidentified police officer from the Police Region Office 6 for mauling him.
Based on police initial investigation, Canoy and the four officers were figured in a traffic accident Thursday morning in Barangay Villamonte.
Alabado was driving an L300 van with Densing, Nimbra and 11 others on their way to the Noppo Headquarters in Barangay Camingawan when the delivery truck driven by Canoy reportedly bumped them and slightly injured a man and a lady police officer on the head.
“I was busy taking care of and securing the two members of the Physical Fitness Team police officers who were injured during the incident,” Densing said.
Alabado, on the other hand, said he called for help and was not aware of the alleged mauling incident.
Based on a police report at the Police Precinct 4, Canoy alleged that Nimbra, Densing, Alabado and the other police officer, which he failed to identify, mauled him and tried to poke his own cellular phone on his head.
Meanwhile, Noppo Director Rosendo Franco said that if Canoy could not prove his allegations they file counter charges against him.
But if proven, Franco said, both Densing and Alabado will be charged criminally and administratively for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of an officer.
