USLS-ISXI campaigning in inter-La Salle meet

THE University of St. La Salle high school boys football squad which recently captured the championship title in the 2006 Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) left for Manila last week to campaign in the 2006 Inter-La Salle sports gathering at the De La Salle-Lipa in Batangas.

The La Salle Bacolod, defeated defending Nopsscea secondary boys titlist and reigning Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan (provincial meet) champion West Negros College, 1-0, during the winner-take-all championship match held at the Paglaum Sports Complex pitch. Both sides evened their elimination round matches.

The USLS squad is composed of Patrick Vincent Benares, Roseller Ciocon, Tereso Doca, Simon Kistler, John David Lizares, Zahir Madini, Jesus Mendoza, Enrique Moran, Mike Pantoja, Rainer Perales, Melvin Ramos, Anthony Tongson, Jose Torrecarion and Gerardo Valmayor.

Valmayor and Mendoza were La Salle’s scorers during their clashes against WNC en route to their championship victory.

The La Sallians are expected to reinforce their lineup with selected standouts from the other Nopsscea squads in their bid to retain the Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan crown early next year.

The Nopsscea squad is also expected to face tough opposition from traditional football districts that include Victorias City, San Carlos City as well as the squad from the vastly improved fourth congressional district covering the cities of Bago and La Carlota and the municipality of Pontevedra.

Football development has been notably fast-paced in areas located near the Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) Regional Football Training Center in Bago City.

Nofa is headed by Representative Carlos O. Cojuangco. (HCV)
