P8 million batching equipment for Silay airport to arrive Wednesday
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

AN P8-million electronic control batching equipment from Korea is set to be delivered at the New Bacolod (Silay) Airport Wednesday.

Transportation and Communication Assistant Secretary Ricardo “Cano” Tan said that the imported equipment will serve as replacement to those owned by Hanjin Corp. and which were burned by members of the New People’s Army last October 8.

Tan said the equipment arrived in Manila yesterday and was loaded to a passenger ship that will dock at the Bacolod port.

He added that two Korean technicians are already waiting here so they could install the equipment. The installation would take a maximum of two weeks.

“I am hoping that with the arrival of this new equipment, works at the airport site will return to normal and speed up to beat the target date of completion on the end of the first quarter next year,” Tan said.

As of press time, he said 77 percent of the airport works have already been completed.

As to the security, Tan said there are already 22 soldiers and eight policemen guarding the entrances and exits of the project site until the airport is finished.
