Rebellion rap filed vs captured rebel in San Carlos
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

THE San Carlos City Police Office (SCPO) filed Tuesday a complaint for rebellion against captured rebel Salvador Manunag of Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City before the City Prosecutor's Office.

Manunag, also known as "Ka Demon," was the lone rebel captured by the elements of the Philippine Army during an encounter at Barangay Quezon, San Carlos City on November 29.

SCPO Director Ricardo De la Paz said that Manunag was cited for violating Article 134 of the Revised Penal Code, which penalizes rebellion.

Police also presented to the prosecutor's office the five high-powered firearms recovered from the encounter site and the testimonies of five witnesses.

Manunag, on the other hand, is still confined at the San Carlos City Hospital and is under tight police security.

Meanwhile, the five slain alleged rebels who reportedly belonged to the Regional Sentro de Gravidad-Komiting Rehonal Negros-Larangang Guerilla 3 (RSDG-KRN-LG3) of the New People's Army (NPA) include Renato De la Viña alias Atoy/Batoy of Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City; Rodrigo Berano, driver of Toyota Hi-ace and a resident of Barangay Binalbagan, Canlaon City; Felipe Aligo alias Ka Bong, reported platoon leader of RSDF Platoon and a resident of Silay City; Michael Elarde of Barangay Caduhaan, Cadiz City and Alberto Delima Sr. alias Daryl of Sitio Aglulumot, Barangay San Jose, Toboso.

The National Democratic Front (NDF-Negros), however, denied De la Viña was member of the NPA.

In a statement, the group claimed that the rebels simply asked De la Viña and his driver to fetch them to Canlaon City.

The Karapatan-Negros hired the services of Attorney Samuel Lezama to act as legal counsel of the Manunag.
