BACOLOD City is among the several other selected local government units that will benefit of the proposed P250-million flyover project under the Bridge Program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The other proposed flyovers will be put up in the junction of Manila North Road and Gapan-Olongapo Road in San Fernando City; juction of North Bacalso Avenue and V. Rama Ave., Cebu City; junction of Matina Ave. and Aplaya-Pangi St., Davao City; junction of J. Luna Ave. and A. Soriano Jr.-Cabahug St., Cebu City; junction of Luna St. and Jalandoni St., Iloilo City; junction of Panganiban Ave. and Magsaysay Ave., Naga, Camarines Sur; junction of Jose Aquino Ave., and Montilla Boulevard, Butuan City; and junction of Ledesma St., and Valeria St., Iloilo City.

"This is the project of the National Government through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). If this project will be realized, it will create great impact and improvement to the traffic problem in the city," said Balo.

He added that DPWH started to conduct its first survey in September 2004.

Presently, Balo said, that the DPWH personnel were doing a boring test along Lacson St. -- Burgos St. and along Lacson St. -- BS Aquino Drive, as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment to be submitted to DPWH Manila.

"The proposed project will create big change to the traffic woe of the city. The traffic improvement is one of the flagship programs of Mayor Evelio Leonardia. This will play an important role especially with the entries of the business processing outsourcing companies, SM City Bacolod and Chinatown Square," he further said.
