Saturday, December 23, 2006 Hero's welcome awaits Asian Games gold medallist
THE Talisay City Government will hold a hero's welcome and tribute for 15th Asian Games Gold Medalist Joan Tipon on December 25.
Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan, and Vice Mayor Nilo Jesus Antonio Neil Lizares III, together with the city officials, will welcome Tipon upon his arrival at the Bacolod City Airport at 6:25 a.m.
Shortly after, a caravan will usher Tipon to his native City of Talisay. A short program is prepared at the City Public Plaza.
During the program, Mayor Saratan will lead the awarding of cash incentives to Tipon and SEA Games Gold Medalist Juanito Magliquian Jr., to be assisted by the City Council members and other City officials.
A press conference will follow at the Senior Citizens Pavilion.
Simultaneously, a boxing invitational game sponsored by Administered Training Leading Empowerment to the Talisay Athletes (Atleta) will provide entertainment to the public.
A true-blooded Taliseño, Tipon, is one of the four Filipino athletes who gave the Philippines a well-coveted Gold Medal in the recently concluded 15th Asian Games at Doha, Qatar.
Deprived of financial resources, this young dreamer overcame the odds and proved that hard work, perseverance, and determination have no substitute in achieving success.
Giving such honor to his country is, indeed, an achievement, which most Filipino athletes could only dream of.
For the young aspiring athletes of the Talisay City, Tipon is a true source of inspiration and constant motivation.
