Monday, January 22, 2007 Sportswriter choose new officers
THE Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines (SCOOP) Bacolod Chapter elected its new set of officers for 2007 during its general membership meeting at Dodong's Fastbreak of Bascon Hotel.
Elected to his second term as president was independent TV producers and former RPN production man George Liza who first served as president in 1996. Liza is also a former president of the Negros Press Club (NPC).
Also elected were: Vice-president, Henceboy Cestina of RPN-dyKB; secretary, Henry Villalva of Sun.Star Bacolod and The Philippine Chronicle; treasurer, Elsie Jolingan of the Bacolod City PIO; business manager, Christian Irl Tan of Visayan Daily Star; and auditor, Cyrus Garde of Negros Daily Bulletin.
Elected as members of the board of directors were Nida Buenafe (Negros Weekly), Mitch Lipa (ABS-CBN), Cedelf Tupas (Visayan Daily Star) and Guillermo Tejada III (Visayan Daily Star).
Immediate past president Renato 'Boy' Duran of dyEZ Manila Broadcasting Company Aksyon Radyo will sit as ex-officio member of the board of directors.
Liza said he intends to pursue the unfinished programs of Duran particularly the revival of the annual Scoop Bacolod Awards for the outstanding athletes of Negros Occidental.
"This used to be the centerpiece of Scoop Bacolod's year-round calendar of activities and with so many Negrense athletes doing well in both the national and international scene, we really hope to revive the Scoop awards this year, perhaps to coincide with the induction of officers," Liza said in his post-election acceptance speech.
At the same time, Liza appointed Villalva to head the Scoop awards wommittee. <(HCV)
