Monday, January 29, 2007 28 arrested for gun, bladed weapon possession
CADIZ CITY -- The persistent efforts of the Cadiz City Police and other law enforcement agencies to keep peace and order during the weeklong fiesta celebration paid off as only one stabbing incident was reported to the police.
Also, among the 28 individuals that were brought in custody for bringing deadly weapons at the public places during the celebration, one was arrested for violation of Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
This as Audie Vedia was arrested after a group of young boys reported to the police station that he was carrying a caliber .38 revolver along Abelarde street near the public plaza which the police then made the necessary actions.
Meanwhile, just as the "sadsad" (street dancing) was conducted, a group of young men have reportedly engaged in a free-for-all fight injuring two persons, including a Filipino-German citizen along the public plaza in Barangay Zone 3 in Cadiz City.
Wounded were Richard Tamula-Hangerdner, 37, of Purok Zennia in Barangay 3 and Ian Fontanilla, 22, of Barangay Tangub in Bacolod City.
Both the group of Hangerdner and Fontanilla had a misunderstanding and later confronted each other that lead to the commotion, police report said.
Hangerdner suffered wounds in his right face after Fontanilla hit a bottle of beer in his head and a stabbed wound in his left forearm.
Fontanilla was also stabbed in the stomach, which was inflicted by the latter, police report said.
Maintaining the peace and order in the city is also joined by the forces of the 11TH and 12TH Infantry Battalion, 611 Provincial Mobile Group, 6th Regional Mobile Group, 6th Philippine Coast Guard, 603rd PNP Maritime Group, neighboring PNP stations, Kabayan, Kabalikat Civicom, Philippine Guardian Brotherhood Inc. (PGBI), Guardian Brotherhood Federal Inc. (GBFI), Barangay Tanods, cadets from Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School and Caduhaan National High School.
