30T cases of beer 'flood' Cadiz's Dinagsa Festival

THE 33rd Dinagsa (Ati-Atihan) Festival of Cadiz City concluded last night with a huge P40 million generated income.

So announced Mayor Salvador "Bading" Escalante Jr. who also said "I never regretted spending about P4 million of city budget just for this year's Dinagsa Festival."

"Having a P40-million income in just one week of festivity is considered record breaking with San Miguel Corporation (SMC) selling about 30,000 cases of beer for the entire week," Escalante said.

Dinagsa started on Jan. 22 and ended Sunday night.

He estimated that if vendors earned P10 from every case of beer, they would have earned about P3 million from beer alone.

Aside from beer, Escalante said the sale of their famous dried fish (oga) and farm products from various upland barangays also contributed to the income.

Also, he lauded scores of Balikbayans who poured their support for the city.

He thanked the people of Cadiz especially those from the business and private sectors for their all-out support in making this year's Dinagsa a success both in business and tourism promotions.

Peaceful

In terms of peace and order, Esclante lauded their newly-installed Cadiz City Police Office Chief Jefferson Descallar for a "job well done."

"For a week of activities, I never heard occurrence of any untoward incidents except from several persons who were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and bladed weapon," he said.

For his part, Descallar said their conduct of check points in any strategic places in Cadiz and establishment of Police Assistance Booths (PABs) and Tourist Information Center also helped much for making Dinagsa truly a peaceful event.
