Monday, January 29, 2007 P.5M worth of stolen steel items recovered
A JUNK shop owner and his two workers were detained for allegedly stealing construction steel materials amounting to P.5 million in Barangay 9, Victorias City Sunday.
Three other workers are being hunted by the Police for the same offense.
Arrested were Reman Salar, 28, junk shop owner and his crew Jory Montecastro, 19, and Bimbo Mendoza, 20. The other three were identified as Daniel Gelligane, Roelly Barameda and Orly Guareno. All are aged 18 residents of Purok 6, Barangay 9, Victorias City.
They reportedly stole numerous construction steel supplies intended for the construction of the Daan Banwa Bridge in Barangay 9 under the Presidential Bridge project, a police report said.
The initial Victorias Police investigation showed that the items were stolen at about 1 a.m. after the guard (who refused to divulged his name) have witnessed Barameda, Guareno and Gelligane taking away construction equipment away from the area.
Recovered from the suspects were a galvanized steel cord, two pieces of galvanized ruler, a balance beam set, two hack saw, three braces of scaffolding, three pieces of peeler tube, a 7.35-meter peeler tube and 11 bolts and knots.
The suspects will be charged with robbery before the Prosecutor's Office.
