Bing, Novero finally 'on'

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Renecito Novero declared Wednesday their alliance for the May elections against the tandem of incumbent Congressman Monico Puentevella and former mayor Joy Valdez.

Novero will run against Puentevella and Leonardia will fight Valdez anew.

The Novero-Leonardia ticket will be under the Nationalist People's Coalition while the Puentevella-Valdez tandem will banner the Lakas-NUCD party.

Novero has decided to seriously consider joining the Nationalist People's Coalition despite the fact that he is a Lakas party member. He was the former runningmate of Valdez in the 2004 elections.

Novero said, "I shall run for Congress and Bing is my running-mate for the mayoralty post."

But he said since Lakas will have an official candidate, it is most likely and practical for him to join the Leonardia camp.

As to there vice mayor, Novero said, "We are still discussing it as we are still screening the councilors."

Sources, however, said the Novero-Leonardia ticket will have Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson as vice mayor. But Sayson said he has not received any invitation or confirmation of the selection.(EASD)
