SM makes 600 kids happy

SIX hundred kids from Barangays 8, 10 and 12 of Bacolod City received gifts from the SM Foundation Inc (SMFI) last week during its "Make A Child Happy" project together with the Department of Social Services and Development.

Children from the nearby barangays where SM is located received toys and other gift items.

Christy Angeles, SM Human Resource Director, said that SMFI will also grant scholarships for 10 students through the Public Employment Services Office of the City.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia thanked the SM management for helping the City Government in reaching out to its less-privileged constituents. Leonardia also recognized the super mall, which will be opening in March, for bringing in about 4,000 job opportunities to the city.

It was first in the history of Bacolod, that within a year there was a bonanza of employment, Leonardia said referring to the job opportunities brought in by SM and the call centers, which generates more than 5,000 employments all together.

SM is an entrepreneur with a heart, said PESO cluster head Moises dela Cruz who represented the Mayor in the gift-giving program in Barangay 10.

"Aside from the investment and employment (they brought to Bacolod), they also cared for the less-fortunate people in the city," he added.
