Wednesday, February 28, 2007 Nojas still RMGA's program director By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
CONTROVERSIAL broadcaster Donard Nojas is still the program director of GMA-Super Radyo in Bacolod, according to the station's Officer-In-Charge Bambi Yngson.
Nojas, however, is also anchoring a block-time radio program in another network, RMN-dyHB Radyo Agong from 9 to 9:30 p.m. daily.
In phone interview with Sun.Star Tuesday night, Yngson clarified that GMA-7 management has neither suspended nor terminated Nojas as program director of RGMA-Super Radyo-Bacolod.
"It was very clear on the memorandum of Sir Mike Enriquez (GMA-7's vice president for Radio and TV) dated February 12, 2007 that Donard was only stripped of anchoring job for Saksi Evening Edition and instead told to focus on his PD (program director) job," Yngson said.
He added "As far as I know Donard was taken from the Saksi Evening Edition so he could focus on his responsibility as our PD so we can improve our operations and be competitive in the rating game."
Based on the recent radio survey, the 9-year-old RGMA-Super Radyo belonged to those classified as "among others," a source from the Kapisanan ng Mga Broadkasters sa Pilipinas (KBP) told Sun.Star Tuesday night.
"I think, this is the very reason why our top management decided to let Donard concentrate on his PD job rather than to have him anchor an evening program," Yngson said.
Asked what will now happen because Nojas is doing a program in another network, Yngson said, "The GMA-7 management is still reviewing its policy on this matter."
Newks' complaint
Yngson, on the other hand, confirmed that Bacolod Lone District Rep. Monico Puentevella had sent a complaint letter to GMA-7 management against Nojas for his adverse commentaries against the solon.
But Enriquez only instructed Nojas to explain his side on the complaint and nothing more, Yngson added.
Sun.Star tried but failed to contact Nojas for comment as of press time.
Alejaga's case
On the case of Fred Alejaga, Yngson said the GMA-7 management did not terminate him but compelled him to retire because he is already 66 years old.
"Under the law, Sir Fred has reached already the mandatory age of retirement and so the GMA-7 management has no choice but to let him retire," explained Yngson.
Alejaga was also a former manager of Bombo Radyo.
After his retirement there almost three years ago, GMA-7 hired him to lead Super Radyo in Bacolod.
Termination of other reporters
Yngson said until now they do not know about the next move of the top management.
"We are just here and we are just following orders. Whatever decisions the management have, whether to hire permanent station manager or to terminate reporters, that remains to be seen," Yngson said.
