TWO Negrense golfers recently figured prominently at the close of the 2007 Southern Ladies Golf Tournament at the Iloilo Golf and Country Club in Iloilo City early this month.
Anya Tanpinco finished behind eventual champion Crystal Shin of Del Monte who took her second straight crown this year, capping her romp with 50 points completing a wire-to-wire victory over her Bacoleña opponent.
Shin pooled a three-day total of 151 points under the Molave scoring format, including an opening 52 and 49, to beat Tanpinco by four points for the overall crown.
Tanpinco, who started the round four points adrift, actually matched Shin's final day output and finished with a 147 thereby settling for the Championship Flight crown.
Tanpinco actually led a 1-2-3 National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP)/ICTSI finish in the group with Junior World Championship Dottie Ardina placing second with a 144 after a 47 and another Bacoleña, Mia Piccio, closing out with 45 points for a 140 for third.
Christine Popp of the host Iloilo Golf and Country Club copped he Class A plum with a 112, edging teammate Maggie Rivera, who had a 109, while Grace Superal of Orchard scored 105 points to finish third in the tournament staged by the NGAP.
Mt. Malarayat dominated Class B competition as Maria Oliquino scored a 79 then nipped teammate Virginia Bote inthe countback to bag the crown. Iloilo's Sofia Umadhay tallied a 74 for third.
Josie Amon of Riviera ran away with the Class C crown with a 75, 9 points shead of Tagaytay Highlands bet Marissa Vergara, who had a 66, while Iloilo's Jane Oh placed third with a 64.
