Wednesday, March 07, 2007 Bb. Pilipinas defends Wilson crown By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
THE Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated (BPCI) has defended Margaret Nales Wilson, newly crowned Bb. Pilipinas-World, on the contention that she should be stripped of the crown because she hasn't graduated her high school.
In a statement released to national media, BPCI said the 17-year-old Wilson, who is from Bacolod City, passed the rigid screening processes before she was qualified among the 30 finalists.
As to the claim that she is still an undergraduate, BPCI said, Wilson is graduating in high school this March so there is really no problem.
Besides, BPCI said, Wilson is already a high school graduate at the time she will compete for the Miss World Pageant in Poland this coming November.
Wilson, No. 11 (17, 5'9.5", 122 lbs., 34-24-35) is a half-British and half-Filipino actress who has appeared on GMA shows Kakaba-Kaba and Asian Treasures.
She is presently a high school senior at Angelicum in Iloilo City.
Wilson is a model and VJ (Video Jockey).
During Saturday's pageant, Wilson was also adjudged as Miss Photogenic, Miss Watson Style Icon and Miss Ever Bilena.
Other winners were Anna Theresa Licaros and Nadia Lee Cien Shami who were also crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe and Bb. Pilipinas-International, respectively. Licaros also won as Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Natashia, Miss Watson, Miss Bachus Energy Drink.
Proclaimed first runner up was Leizel Verses while Abigail Lesley Cruz was second runner. Verses won as Best in Evening Gown while Cruz as Best in Swimsuit.
Meanwhile, Grizelda Ennis Adelantar, No. 20, from Victorias City, Negros Occidental, failed to make it to the top 12.
