Kabankalan girl, 12, raped, killed
By Nicolas C. Delfin

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was allegedly raped and killed by her neighbor in Purok Ilang-ilang, Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City Saturday evening.

Police identified the victim as Reynalyn Abella.

Abella's naked body was discovered at about 9 p.m. inside a sugarcane plantation in Purok Ilang-ilang.

The suspect, on the other hand, was identified as Lemuel Pelanco, 21.

Kabankalan City Police Chief Rhoderick Alba, in a phone interview Tuesday, said that the victim attended a party along with her sister but later decided to go home together with Pelanco.

On their way home, however, Pelanco reportedly dragged the girl to a dark area near a sugarcane plantation and strangled her using his belt before raping her, Alba said.

Initial investigation showed that there was a sign of struggle as there were abrasions in Pelanco's chest and abdomen.

Meanwhile, Pelanca is detained at the Kabankalan City Police Office after admitting the crime while a case for rape and homicide was filed against him.
