Oplan semana Santa starts
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

THE entire police force in Negros Occidental will still be on alert this Holy Week.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) Director Rosendo Franco said Sunday part of their "Oplan Semana Santa" is to secure all churches, plazas, among other public places in the entire province including airports and seaports.

"We don't know what will happen despite the fact that almost all Christians in the whole world are reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So it's better to be prepared at all times even during such religious event," Franco said.

Franco said, a memorandum had been sent to all chiefs of police instructing them to vigilantly prepare and be on guard against any untoward incident that could be caused by either the New People's Army or any local terrorists marring the Christian celebration of Holy Week.

On the other hand, Franco advised all Negrenses to secure their houses before leaving for Church activities.

Meanwhile, the Negros military commands will also be on alert against NPA attacks.

Brig. Gen. Gregorio Fajardo, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, said he has already issued standing orders for all military under his command to be on alert against possible atrocities launched by rebel elements in the island.
