Lady photographer collapses while taking pictures of Novero By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan and Nicolas C. Delfin
IS THERE a deeper message to the three incidents in the Nationalist People's Coalition - Grupo Progreso (NPC-GP) in Bacolod where two of its supporters and one of its candidates collapsed at the height of its campaign sorties?

Both NPC-GP standard lead men, congressional aspirant Renecito Novero and re-electionist Mayor Evelio Leonardia, however, won't venture in speculating yet.
This came after a 59-year-old lady photographer who was taking pictures for Novero fainted at the Bacolod Public Plaza Monday noon.
It happened when Novero was busy shaking hands with the members of Bacolod veterans who attended the wreath laying ceremony at the monument of the unknown hero at Bacolod Public Plaza.
Worse, the victim Teresita Marquez of Purok 17, Barangay 16, Bacolod, who was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), was declared physically paralyzed Monday night.
In a phone interview, Novero was saddened by the incident.
"I don't know what really caused her collapse but I was informed by my staff that she had suffered from mild stroke," Novero told Sun.Star Bacolod.
The incident was the third time that happened to NPC-GP.
Last March 28, Fely Erenio, also in her late 50s, from Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod, also collapsed in front of COMELEC office before NPC-GP candidates, led by re-electionist Mayor Evelio Leonardia, filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs).
An avid supporter of Leonardia and Novero, Erenio was dancing in the tune of "Boom Tarat-Tarat" when she suddenly fell on the ground, prompting some other NPC-GP supporters to rush her to the hospital.
On March 30, Mayor Leonardia's elder brother Cesar, who is also running for councilor under the same party, also collapsed on stage, right after his speech
during the group's grand opening salvo held in Barangay Villamonte.
Cesar was also rushed to Riverside Medical Center and doctors said he suffered from air shortage during his speech. For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Cebu. (April 10, 2007 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. Join the Sun.Star message board. Click here. |
