Saturday, April 14, 2007 Mother shot for ‘stealing’ duck By Nicolas C. Delfin
A MOTHER is always perceived to be a good teacher in the family and an epitome of good values for her children.
But this is not the case for Zenaida Maghari, 40, of Barangay Nagasi, La Carlota City, who was recently injured after she was shot by a neighbor, for allegedly stealing a duck.
According to police report of the La Carlota City Police Office, at around 3 a.m. Friday, Zenaida was seen by Jose Delgado, fetching her two sons, who at the time, were crossing the river in Hacienda Esperanza, also in the barangay, having the Delgado's duck placed inside a sack.
Delgado got irked and so he took an improvised shotgun and shot the mother and sons.
Of the three, only Zenaida was hit in her left arm and left leg. She's still confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod until press time Friday.
Delgado, on the other hand, surrendered to the police authorities shortly after the incident happened and admitted the crime.
He said t was not the first time that his domesticated animals were stolen.
Early this month, he told the police that his goat was also missing and believed that it was also stolen by Zenaida's sons.
Delgado is now detained at the La Carlota Police Station while charges of frustrated murder and violation of the gun ban are being prepared against him.
