FORMER West Negros Colleg Mustangs stalwarts Ruel Balgos and Basil Stanley Tizon are at the forefront of the Iloilo Warriors' campaign in the ongoing National Basketball Conference (NBC) National Cup series.
The Warriors, managed by Toyota Iloilo and Toyota Bacolod owner and Iloilo Basketball League (IBL) president Robert Uy, relied on the former WNC slotman's 28 game-high points and 12 rebounds in their 97-105 loss Thursday toMayor Jose Galario Jr.'s Valencia Golden Harvest.
Ex-Mustangs point guard Tizon finished with 7 points, 5 assists and a steal in their losing effort.
Iloilo was scheduled to break into the win column on Friday when it tangled against businessman Armando Quibod's Montaña Pawnshop Davao Jewelers in a clash that was scheduled at the Almendras Gym in Davao City.
The ex-WNC Mustangs duo teamed up with former University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos forward Rhagness Singco who chipped with 27 points and eight boards for Iloilo.
Other former Negrense varsitarians who contributed for the Iloilo cause were ex-Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod Eagles Jhornel Laborte who finished with 6 points and ex-Mustang Junrey Cortel who tallied 2.
"The team is still undergoing a getting-to-know-you period since adjustments were made on our lineup but I believe in due time we will be able to get the rhythm and teamwork that we need," Singco told Sun.Star Bacolod.
Singco was also a former starter for the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws in the UAAP before he joined the Iloilo Warriors after wounding up his playing years in the country's premier collegiate league.
