Monday, April 16, 2007 House robbed, P100T worth of valuables carted away By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan and Suzette T. Quingco
THE house of Gerald Dewara in Jesusa Heights Subdivision, Barangay Estefania in Bacolod City was allegedly entered by unknown suspects, carting away almost P100,000 worth of valuables, at around 5 a.m. Saturday.
POI Dan Salazar, desk officer at Police Station 4 in Villamonte, Bacolod, said suspects took Dewara's wallet containing P5,000 cash and various ATM and credit cards.
Also taken were Swiss Army wrist watch worth P20,000; a diamond ring worth P50,000; Nokia N70 cellular phone worth P20,000; gold necklace worth P5,000 and gold earings worth P15,000.
Aside from Estefania robbery, Salazar said a Steak House along Burgos street was also robbed by unknown suspects also on Saturday morning.
He said a certain Gilbert Lahay-lahay of Purok Paghidaet, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod, reported to their station, 9:30 a.m. Saturday that at around 8 a.m., they discovered that several galloons of paints worth P10,000 were missing.
Lahay-lahay told police that the suspects might have entered through the windows of their store after they also found out that six crystal window plates were already ruined. Both cases are now being investigated, assured Salazar.
Meanwhile, City Police Director Ronilo Quebrar denied reports that series of hold up incidents and robbery cases in Bacolod are "syndicated."
We have no clear evidence that hold up and robbery suspects are being "masterminded" by a certain ring leader here in the city, Quebrar added.
Though, he said, "We need to double check this report and immediately apprehend criminal elements to prevent occurrence of similar incidents."
Quebrar also enjoined the public to be vigilant and immediately report to any police station should there will be suspicious movements or personalities in their areas.
Since Holy Week until press time, eight "small scale" hold up incidents were recorded in the city and some were already resolved, he added.
