THE Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) is now serving 29,351 households in Bacolod City with a steady supply of water as of December 31, 2006.
Baciwa Assistant General Manager Juliana Carbon said they have practically covered the city and have supplied water to most residents situated along the major routes of the district's pumps.
The growth of clients was made possible with the P537 million expansion project from Japan Bank for international Cooperation (JBIC) with a P70 million Baciwa counterpart.
The project is now almost finished except for the remaining P40 million on-going work. Baciwa availed of the loan through the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).
In 2005 2,292 clients got water connections followed by 2,725 the following year.
Carbon told the Philippine Information Agency that about 3,000 households are targeted to be served this year and 3,500 more in 2008.
Summer heat has not lowered the water levels in the main sources of Baciwa despite the increasing number of clients, she said.
"There has been no remarkable reduction of water level in the major sources of Baciwa," she said, adding that the office has 37 deep wells and two spring water sources.
She admitted, though, that distribution problems do exist as some areas are having low pressure while others have a good one.
This, they hope to be corrected, with the operation of a reservoir in Barangay Mansilingan this year.
Water is a priority project of President Gloria M. Arroyo's administration that has already benefited millions of Filipinos nationwide.
President Arroyo has recently ordered to further expand water projects in the country through LWUA to meet the Filipino's growing demand for clean potable water. (PR)
