Editorial: Where's Quebrar's promise?

LAST week, City Police Director Ronilo Quebrar promised to put a stop on the occurrences of robberies and hold ups in the city. He even formed the Task Force Barakuda to determine and identify the people behind the series of robberies and hold up cases.

He also boasted that of the nine cases that happened since Holy Week until last week, some had been solved already. Yesterday, however, the city was shocked again after another hold-up incident happened at Purok Narra Baybay, Barangay 8. The victim was a llamador in a cockpit arena. Suspects divested him of P1,600.

Now, where's Quebrar's promise? What happened to his TF Barakuda? Are the people behind TF Barakuda competent enough to handle the task in averting occurrences of hold up and robbery cases?

If not, then Quebrar should not boast that soon he will smash robbers in the city. It's a shame for a city police director to boast and boast, and the following day another hold up case happens in the city.

Quebrar should also remember that robbery and hold up cases happening in the city are not "big time" cases. They were only perpetrated by "small time" suspects. Yet, Quebrar and his men did nothing to collar them. The question is: If Quebrar can't solve the small time cases, how much more for the big time? Mayor Evelio Leonardia should think seriously about this before Bacolod will earn another title as the next "Hold-up Capital in the Visayas."
