Alejandro Deoma of Bayan Muna said their requisite for endorsing a candidate is one who tackles issues especially on the extended value added tax, anti-terrorism law, human rights violations, among other issues and those who have a clear platform of government.
For Kabataan spokesperson Clarissa Singson, "Caña is one of the advocates of our cause. He has stood against the issues and has defended some that is worth fighting for."
Caña was recently awarded as one of the Outstanding Councilors of the Philippines (TOCP) during the end-term national assembly of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) in Cebu City.
He was nominated for his track record as an independent councilor for two terms.
He has passed 15 ordinances in his first term (2001-2004) which is the highest output for a councilor in a single term in Bacolod City and five in his current term.
Other candidates endorsed by the progressive groups are Antonio Castillo Jr. in the fifth district, Agnes Jo-Garcia in the second district and Bernardino Mahilum Patigas in the first district.
Castillo is running for councilor in Himamaylan City ad Patigas in Escalante City while Jo-Garcia is running for mayor in Manapla town.
Bacolod survey
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Joseph Marañon revealed Monday that based on the latest survey in Bacolod, re-electionist Mayor Evelio Leonardia is leading against his rivals, Joy Valdez, Vicente Ponteras and Oscar Verdeflor.
For vice mayor, he said Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Leonardia's runningmate is also ahead of Elmer Sy and Lyndon Caña.
But for congressman, Marañon refused to divulge on who is leading between re-electionist Monico Puentevella and his challenger Renecito Novero.
