Wednesday, May 16, 2007 New case, new bail for 185 anti-Magsy people By Nicolas C. Delfin
TAGGING their babies and children along with them, the 185 men and women who were identified supporters of mayoralty candidate Samson Mondia flocked to the Pulupandan police station at about 11 a.m. yesterday to surrender after another warrant of arrest was issued against them.
All are facing grave threats at the sala of Manuel Limsiaco, Jr. of the Valladolid-Pulupandan-San Enrique 4th Municipal Trial Circuit Court.
After posting bail of P1.2M or P6,000 each for the second time, they were released.
"We're all shocked to see them like flocks with their kids, going right through the station and filling the detention cells," police desk officer on duty Tirso Flores, in a phone interview.
According to Flores, the arrest warrants were in connection with the recent demolition attempts by supporters of lawyer Magdaleno Peña in Barangay Zone 6 which were blocked by the 185 respondents leading to violence.
Peña claimed that the 185 respondents were behind the shooting incident and threatened to kill his supporters.
One of the 185 respondents, Diego Malacad, denied Peña's allegations claiming it was a clear harrassment and injustice on their part.
"There was no due process here and this simply shows how unfair our justice system works, nowadays," Malacad said.
