Editorial: Peace prevailed in Negros

THANK God!

After all the fears and worries that elections in some areas in Negros Occidental will be "bloody" considering the intense political rivalry between local bets, yet everything ended peacefully.

Consider it as "Providential."

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

Unlike in other parts of the country, Negros and Bacolod could be proud of a relatively peaceful elections last Monday.

Although, there were two killings that happened in Escalante City and Moises Padilla, those were considered isolated and not politically-motivated as far as the Philippine National Police (PNP) is concerned.

Take as example the case of Pulupandan. This town in southern Negros was perceived to be "hotspot" due to the conflict between two rival candidates for mayor - Magdaleno "Magsy" Peña and Samson Mondia.

Police deployed ample number of peacekeeping forces to thwart any untoward incident.

But believe it or not, the police was amused that everything turned out to be peaceful in Pulupandan.

Kudos to Peña and Mondia!

Aside from Pulupandan, Isabela and Moises Padilla in the south and Escalante City in the north were also placed under police watch.

But like in Pulupandan, the same thing also happened in these three localities.
All these only showed how peace-loving people are the Negrenses.

Being peace-loving is the Negrenses' asset that we could be proud.

Hope we could maintain this as the years go by till the next elections and so forth.
