Thursday, May 24, 2007 Editorial: A ‘dangerous’ split
THE present squabble in the leadership of Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas (RPM-P) and its armed group, Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Bongcayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) might cause a “dangerous” split.
Their split might cause havoc on the peace building efforts of the government.
At present, Carapali Lualhati, national chairman of the RPA-ABB, won’t admit that he was already stripped of power by the RPM-P because of alleged extortion and intervention on political exercises in Negros.
RPM-P also said that Carapali was found guilty of disseminating lies and intrigues and for leading acts that vilified the party leadership, creating confusion within RPM-P.
Carapali denied these accusations and called RPM-P chairman Nilo de la Cruz “liar”.
Carapali is set to have a press conference in Bacolod Friday with some of the RPA-ABB national officials in order to clarify issues involving him and his group. But no matter what will be Carapali’s explanation tomorrow about the issue, people in Negros are now alarmed of what will happen next especially on the peace process in the country. Will it be affected or not?
Is it possible that RPA-ABB will totally split from its mother group - RPM-P?
If this happens, then what will be the repercussion on the part of the rebel groups, to their integrity and credibility and their fighting cause?
Considering that money is said to be the root of their present squabble, they can’t blame the public if it will cast doubts on their integrity and credibility.
Hope the RPM-P and RPA-ABB should patch up their mess as early as now and don’t let the public lose its trust on them.
Because if they don’t have the public’s support, they would end up as “nothing” on their revolutionary cause or else they might be tagged as “armed extortionists”.
