Monday, June 04, 2007 Artworks promote anti-human rights violations campaign By Nicolas C. Delfin
IT WAS such a big surprising event as 24 young and famous local artists of Negros Occidental collaborated with the Pax Christi-Pilipinas in bringing a one of kind exhibit-for-a cause last Saturday at the Orange Gallery in Barangay Mandalagan.
Billed as the PAGHIDArtists: A Chance For Conflict Arts organized by German entrepreneur Claudia Ernenputsch, the three-week exhibit aims to create awareness in preventing human rights violations through the different art interpretations of the 24 artists.
"Raising awareness is all that we can do better while connecting with our artists through their works, working together for peace" Ernenputsch, volunteer for the peace movement Pax Christi, said.
She added that posters of the paintings will be reproduced for an education project with children and young adults in conflict-affected communities as a chance to understand human rights through arts and identify injustice in their own environment.
"Most of the artworks which are being sold at affordable prices will also be presented in the Internet to the International Community as artistic interpretations of human rights violations in the island of Negros," she said.
All 24 artists who were present during the exhibit were Edmund Bacia, Mike Borromeo, Susanito Sarnate, Nonon Yee, Revo Yanson, Dennis Ticao, Richard Aguillon, Santiago Onatin, Leo Mahinay, Ramon De los Santos, Jovito Hecita, Jr. Mario Stephen Regollo, Giovanie Demasuay, Jayson Nermal, Israel Mark Gonzalez, Rianne Salvarita, Jecky Alano, Peter James Fantinalgo, Michael John Pama, Jayr Delleva, Jose Inocencio III, Inocentes Cristales, Roedil Geraldo and Rex Cuenca.
