Tuesday, July 10, 2007 Gen. Fajardo warns disrespectful soldiers By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
BRIGADIER General Gregorio Fajardo, commanding general of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, yesterday warned soldiers in Negros who are disrespectful to their superiors.
“I won’t tolerate disrespectful soldiers,” stressed Fajardo as he cited the recent case of Private First Class (PFC) Leo Erasmo and 2Lt. Joey Lacson of the 32nd Reconnaisance Unit in Bato Detachment in Sagay City.
Both Erasmo and Lacson were killed after they shot each other after a heated argument inside their detachment in Bato, Sagay, Friday night.
However, it cannot be determined yet what really triggered their altercation prior to the shooting incident.
But it was said that Erasmo got irked with Lacson after the latter scolded him right after their formation at around 6:45 p.m. Friday.
After a brief altercation, Esrasmo allegedly took his service firearm and started shooting Lacson.
But Lacson also managed to fight at Erasmo. Worse, however, three of their fellows were also wounded and are now confined at the Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital in Silay City.
They are Privates Roldan Nodalo, Joemil Jamillarin and Renre Concepcion.
On the other hand, the army and the police have already subjected their respective firearm to a ballistic test.
This is to determine if the two were the only ones who shot each other or there were also some who joined on the shooting incident.
Fajardo said that as of now, they can’t reveal yet the conclusion of the probe they commissioned in the area.
He, however, vowed to furnish media a copy of the result of the probe as soon as it is okay for publication.
But Fajardo said his main task now is to teach soldiers of proper behavior and proper respect to their superior.
