Young, yet, committed to serve his constituents
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

AT AGE 31, David Albert R. Lacson, a scion of the most influential Lacson clan in Negros Occidental, has never thought to become a mayor of a town.

Yet, after May 14 elections, he was also excited and the same time nervous, since he was already announcedas winner in the mayoralty race in E.B. Magalona against Alfonso Gamboa, an incumbent mayor at the time.

With only 192 vote-margin over Gamboa’s total votes, Lacson made another “twist” in the history of E.B. Magalona as the youngest mayor ever elected in town.

Since it’s there already, Lacson has no choice but to accept a tall challenge - to lead EB Magalona to progress and development.

“I know that this a tall challege. However, I trust God, my family and you to help me. I can’t steer the town to progress with me alone. I need your support. I need your help,” Lacson said during his inaugural speech on July 2.

He refused to promise anything but vowed to do everything to fulfill the dreams of every Saraviahanon and that is to effect change in their town.

Lacson is also confident that both the Provincial Government and the Congressional Office of Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson won’t abandon him.

Rather, the two are very much committed to help EB Magalona in a very straightforward manner.

“We’re blessed because aside from having the governor, we also have the support from our Congressman,” he added.

Lacson admitted that he’s neither a US educated guy nor a holder of masteral of doctorate degree, but he believes that true leadership and public service are judged not because of personality but only performance—a performance that can be seen and felt by everyone.

He also told his kasiman was that despite he is now the mayor, still he is the real David Lacson whom you’ve met since he was a councilor, vice mayor and now as mayor.

I am your brother, your friend, your mentor, your provider, your neighbor which you can talk and whisper to me or suggest or comment on something. After all, Iam ready to listen to all of you, he told Saraviahanons.
