Oti gets tips on airport mng’t
By Gil Alfredo B. Severino

EXECUTIVES of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) advised Silay Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibano Tuesday to be mindful of “little things” and at the same time, should also be very particular on the management aspect.

MBCCI’s Frank Carbon, currently vice president and Jose Ma. Valencia, explained that concern over structural support such as the access roads and runway extension are too huge and must already be accepted to be requiring time to achieve.

“Right now and for the succeeding three months or so, Mayor Montelibano must already be clear about transportation franchises such as buses, taxis and other public rides.

This process would take time, they said.

“More importantly, the training and development of airport staff, security, porters, PR staff, front desk staff, tourist police must already begin,” They added.

Carbon and Zayco also stressed that all staff must be subjected to intensive language training, poise and personality development, approaches and accommodation of visitor’s problems, among others, and must include even the porters, security and drivers.

“The porters of the new airport must not be like the porters of the old airport,” they said.

Meanwhile, Silay Tourism Officer Ver Pacete expressed thanks to the people of Bacolod for being concerned about the well-being of the new airport under the management of Silay, saying,

“The mayor will definitely be informed about these concerns and that the Bacolod and Provincial tourism offices will be alerted in their next meeting.”

“There are areas, however, in the MBBCI’s concern, which fall under the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC). I am not excusing myself of such responsibility. DOTC’s attention will be called on this matter and my office will be more than willing to offer the necessary training to improve the services of our security, porters and all other staff outside of tourism,” Pacete said.

Pacete stressed that MBCCI’s concern will be better served if we can be successful in facilitating synergy among various agencies working towards in making the Bacolod-Silay Airport unquestionably world class.
