AT LEAST three Negros Ocidental track and field standouts are among the list of eleven RP tricksters set to banner the country's campaign in the prestigious 17th Asian Athletic Association (AAA) Championships slated at the Amman International Stadium in Amman, Jordan on July 25 to 29.
The three Negrenses are Southeast Asian (SEA) Games men's hammer throw record holder Arniel Ferrera who hails from Cauayan, Negros Occidental, men's long jump specialist Joebert Delicano of Victorias City and 100 meter hurdles competitor Sheena Atilano of La Carlota City.
Other members of the RP contingent are men's 4x400 meter relay specialists Jimar Aing, Julius Nierras, Junray Bano and Ernie Candelario who is from Iloilo;
triple jumper Benigno Marayag and female hammer thrower Lorelie Amahit.
Atilano, a former Palarong Pambansa sensation, recently hit the headlines when she erased Elma Muros Posadas' RP record in the 100m hurdles following her successful training in the US.
Meanwhile, Himamaylan City native Julius Sermona, the reigning national Milo Marathon champion who recently won the 5000m gold in the Hongkong invitational athletics event, told Sun.Star Bacolod that his chances of representing the country in the long distance events of the forthcoming 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December have considerably increased with the announcement by erstwhile long distance specialist Eduardo Buenavista that he will concentrate on the marathon following his suspension by Patafa for running in an event which was not sanctioned by the association.
Buenavista will instead run in this Sunday's Milo Marathon NCR eliminations while Sermona has decided to skip defending his national Milo Marathon crown on November 18 in favor of a shot in the RP athletics roster for the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
