Delilan: Thank God it’s raining in Negros and Davao
By Erwin Ambo Delilan
The Buzz

DAVAO CITY -- I can't imagine what's life now in Luzon and in Manila since reports on national television and broadsheets say that the drought there is getting worse everyday. My friend texted me that it's hot, hot, hot now in Manila. Last Thursday night, when I was watching the late news program on TV inside my hotel room, the news about the no rain scenario was again the headline story of the newscast.

Before I left Bacolod going here, I also saw on TV Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales asking the faithful in Manila to pray for God's intercession to give Luzon and Manila a relief by sending rains now. What a sad scenario and I pity people living in Isabela Province, among others there in northern Luzon and Manila.

It can also be called "weird" since the news about this drought in Luzon and Manila is happening at the time when its supposed to be rainy season in the country already. However, I am thankful that in Negros and Davao it's raining.
In Negros, almost every night it's raining. Here in Davao, too.
Thank God for this.

But still we also need to pray for our brothers and sisters there in Luzon and Manila.

We know that we're lucky in Negros and here in Davao but we also need to feel their agony there.

Meanwhile, I was shocked to know that Davao City is one of the places in the country that is not visited by typhoons. Meaning this one city in the country is called typhoon-free.

And being typhoon-free, Davao City, therefore, has the advantage in terms of investment opportunities considering that investors prefer to invest here because their businesses could have no hassle in case of bad weather.

What a blessed city!

One thing more, I really, really admire Davao City for truly implementing the anti-smoking ordinance in all public places here. I heard from our tour guide here that Davao City Police is also strict in implementing the no-smoking ordinance in public places and even all the hotel, restaurant and other commercial establishment owners are also in full-support of the anti-smoking campaign.

This, of course, made Davao City not only the cleanest city but also a model city in terms of discipline.

By the way, thanks also to Cebu Pacific management for sponsoring our trip here in Davao with the rest of the guys from Bacolod and Iloilo media. There are a lot of things I've discovered and learned here. So read my next succeeding columns about Davao City and my worthwhile experience in this famous and progressive city in the Mindanao region.
