Wednesday, August 15, 2007 Escalante holds tax forum
TAXES are the fuel to run the government. It plays a major role on the implementation and realization of government services. For this reason, the City of Escalante conducted a two-hour Real Property Tax Forum on August 13, 2007 at the 2nd floor, Escalante City Center.
Spearheaded by the City Treasurer and Assessor’s Offices led by Mr. Wilfredo Ruiz and Mr. Ernesto Martorillas respectively, the Forum is intended to appraise tax payers and remind them of their tax obligations. Taxpayers were given the chance to raise questions and/or concerns regarding their real properties. Importance of real property tax, its principles and computations were also discussed.
In addition, Mr. Ruiz emphasized that the real property owners must pay their taxes on time to avoid penalty and interest. Early payment discount is granted by the City.
“Without your taxes, the City government couldn’t function. Your taxes would be returned to you in the form of basic services that would be doubled or even tripled, “City Mayor Melecio J. Yap Jr. assured.
