St. Ezekiel Moreno Centenary with ‘Walk of Fame’

TODAY’S commemoration of the St. Ezekiel Moreno Centenary by the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos will be highlighted by the “Walk of Fame”.

The Walk of Fame, said Fr. Raul Buhay, OAR, UNO-R Vice President for Academics, encourages successful UNORians to be mission-oriented.

And, it will be part of the commemoration of St. Ezekiel Moreno Centenary that started on August 10 and will commence on the 19th.

Connie Po, Walk of Fame project director, said the university has a student population of 6,494 of which 882 are scholars.

The university intends to send more students to school.

Another activity is the St. Ezekiel 100 which is a challenge run.

Ericson Rios, project officer, said volunteers will run/walk as many laps around the UNO-R track within a period of 100 minutes. This will be held on August 18, 2007 at the UNO-R Football field.

Aside from these, there is also the “Walk for Healing” which aims to benefit the Forum Against Cancer Through Encourage and Support (Faces) Interested participants will walk from Capitol Lagoon to UNO-R campus on August 19, 2007, 6:30 a.m.

Bro. Jaazel Jakosalem, OAR, UNO-R Property Custodian, believes that the good works of St. Ezekiel Moreno will continue to inspire and heal the sick being the Saint of the cancer sufferers.

Moreno is also a cancer sufferer himself.

His cancer grew in his palate, but he treated his illness with indifference by continuing to help others until his final day came.

On August 19, 1906, he commended his spirit into the hands of God.
