Thursday, August 16, 2007 Another hold-up in City By Suzette T. Quingco
POLICE are yet to solve the Carmela Malayang hold-up along 18th Lacson Street in Bacolod, yet, another one took place at Regent Pearl Homes in Barangay Alijis, victimizing an Indian national and his aide.
But unlike Malayang who was divested of P100,000 by three motor-riding suspects, the new victims, Jarnail Singh and Jomar Saraga, only lost P7,500 to two unidentified robbers who also took their motorcycle and used it as their getaway vehicle.
The two also carted away their cellular phones. The Alijis hold-up, however, happened almost similar to the Lacson robbery which is shortly an hour before noon.
Bacolod City Police Director Ronilo Quebrar told the media earlier that they’re not sleeping on the hold-up cases happening in the city almost everyday.
Quebrar who was in Cebu City when the Malayang hold up happened Monday said he already instructed Inspector Rei Gumban, commander of Police Station 2, to intensify their monitoring of the presence of the alleged suspects who boldly held-up Malayang along the busy street of Lacson.
But while he is about to receive update on Gumban’s action, Quebrar got another “headache” with the present Singh-Saraga hold up.
Quebrar again needs a report from Senior Inspector Danilo Francisco, chief of Police Station 7 about the latest incident.
Francisco, however, said Saraga has already identified one of the two suspects who pointed them a gun through pictures presented to them by the police.
“Through the description of the victim, hopefully we can have a positive result in the following days, the station commander said, adding that they are now tracking down the suspects.
“We are still conducting a hot pursuit operation for possible apprehension of the said suspect and if possible also his companion,” he said.
Quebrar, on the other hand, vowed that the BCPO Intelligence and Investigation Section is now working day and night just to address the occurrence of hold-up cases in Bacolod.
In his earlier statement to the media, Quebrar also stressed that they’re now studying the pattern of the modus operandi of the suspected robbers in Bacolod.
He, however, clarified that based on their intelligence report, there’s no syndicated group behind the series of hold-up cases in the city.
